Dog Poo
Over a quarter of dog owners have admitted to not picking up their dog’s poo during a walk!
Dog mess is probably the most unacceptable and offensive type of litter on our streets and public areas.
There are estimated to be more than 8 million dogs producing more than 1,000 tonnes of mess every day in the UK alone.
While most dog owners are caring, responsible individuals, there are still some people who do not clean up after their pets.
Fines
Anyone who fails to clear up after their dog can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to £100. If the case goes to court this could cost the owner or person in charge of the animal up to £1,000. The law states that being unaware a dog has fouled or not having a suitable bag is not a reasonable excuse.
Dog Poo Bins
In partnership with the Town and Parish Council we provide dog bins in many favoured dog walking areas. However, where there is not a dog bin, any public litter bin can take the waste, or it can be double bagged and placed in your rubbish bin at home.
You are legally obliged to clear up after your dog if it fouls any land which is open to the air, and to which the public have access. Remember that contact with dog excrement can lead to blindness, from a parasite called Toxocara canis.
When taking your dog for their daily walk, remember to bring poo bags for the waste. If any of our bins are full or broken, you can report it here:

You can report a dog fouling issue on our website and we will carry out an inspection and arrange for the area to be cleaned if necessary.
You can also mark areas where you think there are repeat dog fouling concerns on our map below to help us build up a picture of problem areas in the district.
There really is no excuse not to pick it up and bin it!
