We’ve put together a draft Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) and we’re inviting you to have your say.

The SCI is an important document that explains how we plan to involve you in shaping future planning decisions, both when we create or update planning policy documents (including the new Local Plan) and when we assess planning applications. It also sets out how we’ll work with communities and partners to support neighbourhood plans and development proposals.

While there’s no legal requirement to consult on this document, we believe strongly in involving the community from the very beginning. This is your chance to help shape how we communicate, consult, and work with you on future planning matters.

What is the Statement of Community Involvement?

The SCI outlines:

  • How we will engage with residents, businesses, and stakeholders in preparing planning policies.
  • The ways you can get involved in planning applications that affect your community.
  • Support available for neighbourhood planning groups and community-led development projects.

We want the process of planning to be as open, accessible, and inclusive as possible, and we know that starts with listening to your views.

How to Take Part

The consultation will run for eight weeks, from 16.00pm on the 4 July 2025 for eight weeks, finishing at 16.00pm on the 29 August 2025.

You can read the draft SCI and submit your feedback using our Planning Policy consultation portal: https://consult.wealden.gov.uk

We've put together some useful guidance notes to help you take part.

If you'd prefer you can download the draft Statement of Community Involvement as a pdf and download and complete a pdf response form.

Completed response forms can be returned to us via email at: planningpolicy@wealden.gov.uk or by post to Planning Policy, Council Offices, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, BN27 2AX.

Why Your Voice Matters

Planning decisions shape the places we live, work, and enjoy. Whether it's new homes, green spaces, transport links, or community facilities, your input can help us make better, more informed decisions.

This is your opportunity to be involved early on and help ensure that our approach to planning reflects the needs and priorities of our community.

We look forward to hearing your views.
