The New Mayfield Community and Health Centre is a major regeneration project delivering a modern, purpose‑built health centre and community facility for the parish of Mayfield and Five Ashes. The scheme is being delivered in partnership between Wealden District Council and Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council, responding to long‑standing healthcare capacity issues and the need for improved community infrastructure. The project has been in development since 2022, progressing through planning, redesign and funding stages before entering construction in 2026.
The project includes:
A modern community hall
Community hub
Office Space
A new health centre incorporating four GP consulting rooms, three treatment rooms, waiting room and ancillary spaces.
Accessible parking and electric vehicle charging points.
Thoughtfully designed hard and soft landscaping that fits with the High Weald’s natural charm
Initial proposals for a combined community and health centre were approved in 2022, but increasing construction costs meant the original scheme could not proceed as designed. Since then we have adjusted the plan to stay within budget without losing quality or community value. The site will serve as both a community centre and healthcare facility and be a key part of local life, offering essential healthcare services and space for social gatherings, meetings, and events. It has been thoughtfully designed with careful consideration of the site’s unique characteristics, the sensitive High Weald landscape and historic surroundings. As part of this redevelopment, the existing community hall will be removed to make space for a brand-new, modern facility that better meets the needs of residents now and in the future.
The community hall and health centre project is being undertaken in partnership between Wealden District Council and Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council. The construction contract for the new integrated building has been awarded to Sunninghill Construction, a local Sussex based contractor. We look forward to seeing this vision come to life and the positive impact it will have for generations to come.
