You can now recycle your small electrical items on your waste or recycling collection day.

Please place the items in a carrier bag and place them on top of either your black or green bin. Please do not place items inside your black or green bins.

Cables

We’ve all got one of ‘those’ drawers, filled with broken chargers and unused cables. According to latest research, in the UK we bin or stash away 627 million cables – enough to go to the moon AND BACK!

But did you know those cables are full of precious copper which, if recycled, could meet the UK’s growing demand of copper needed in our green future?! And with copper becoming more scarce, demand soaring, and the detrimental environmental and social impacts of mining for raw materials – how can we all help? The solution is surprisingly simple; harness what we already have.

If 1 million of us all recycled one cable, we could save at least 5,000kg of copper from going to waste.

Vapes

1.3 million single-use vapes are thrown away every week. They are fast becoming one of the biggest waste streams in the UK and one of the biggest problems!

This is because vapes contain batteries within them and when they are binned or incorrectly disposed of, they can get crushed or damaged and start fires.

For this reason, vapes cannot be placed in either your rubbish or recycling bin at home or any litter bin when out and about.

The good news is that they can be recycled!

Disposable vapes, such as ELF bars, can be recycled at the kerbside by putting them in a carrier bag (separate to any other batteries you are recycling) and placed next to either your rubbish or recycling bin.

If you have a rechargeable vape with a detachable battery, this too can be recycled. Just remove the battery from your device and recycle it, along with any other batteries, by placing in a separate carrier bag and leaving beside either your rubbish or recycling bin on collection day.
