Will parking spaces be lost permanently?

The scheme has been designed to retain existing parking provision while introducing the solar canopy structures. Temporary closures will be required during construction, but the intention is to maintain parking availability once the project is complete.

What will the electricity be used for?

The renewable electricity generated by the solar car ports will be used to help power the neighbouring Wealden District Council offices, reducing the amount of electricity that needs to be purchased from the grid.

Will there be batteries on site?

No. Battery storage does not currently form part of the proposed scheme. The project has been designed to use electricity directly during daytime operating hours when the Council offices are using the most energy.

    Why was this location chosen?

Vicarage Lane Car Park was identified as a suitable location because it is a Council-owned site close to the offices that will use the electricity generated. This allows renewable energy to be generated on an existing developed site without building on greenfield land.

Has the environmental impact been assessed?

Yes. Specialist landscape, visual and glare assessments have been carried out as part of the project's development. These assessments help ensure the proposed design is appropriate for its location and does not create significant impacts on surrounding roads or neighbouring properties.

How much electricity will the solar car ports generate?

The proposed system is expected to generate approximately 217,000 kWh of renewable electricity each year.

How much money could the project save?

Initial modelling suggests the project could deliver energy savings in the region of £54,000 per year. This figure is indicative and will be reviewed as part of the detailed business case.
