We are pleased to announce our new Sports Infrastructure Funding Programme. The aim of this funding programme is to provide and enhance sports provision within the district by offering grants to organisations to support partners to improve playing pitches, facilities and widen sport participation.
Funding Aims
Our goal is to enhance the health and wellbeing of Wealden residents, fostering happier, healthier, and more inclusive lives. High-quality local sports provision and open spaces enable residents to adopt healthier lifestyles through physical activity and community involvement.
By working with local partners and communities, we aim to strengthen relationships and build resilient communities. This funding programme supports the projects outlined in the district’s Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sports Strategy (PPOSS), aiming to improve outdoor sports provision and increase physical activity participation.

Its own bank account and must have at least two signatories on the account (refer to document checklist below)
At least three members on its governing body or board of directors (refer to document checklist below)
Vulnerable Adult and/or Child Protection Policies and Procedures (if your organisation works directly with children and/or adults)
All relevant and required insurance in place e.g. Public Liability insurance.
The project does not meet any of the restrictions mentioned within the guidance notes.
Applicant Requirements
Either own the land or have permission from the landowner AND have a lease of more than seven years where the funding will be spent.
Match Funding
A minimum of 100% match funding is a requirement.
Attributable Costs
Clearly demonstrate that all costs applied for are directly attributable to the physical delivery of a project. Funding is typically awarded for the purchase and installation of materials and equipment.
Planning Permissions
Permissions should be obtained prior to making an application, in particular, Planning Permission and/or Building Regulations approval.
Project Plan
The application must include a project plan with high level milestones and risks/mitigation measures to be undertaken.

The Application process is now open. Expressions of interest are accepted and will be processed on rolling basis until 31 March 2027, or until all funds are allocated. Successful applicants will have a set period to spend their grant, determined on a case-by-case basis. Final payments will be made upon project completion and submission of spending evidence.
To request an application pack, please email your expression of interest including a short summary of the proposed project and confirmation that details of your project are included in the PPOSS to sportsinfrastructurefund@wealden.gov.uk. If your expression of interest is assessed to meet the funding criteria you will be sent an online application form to complete. Further guidance and details on the scoring criteria will also be emailed to you.
