Wealden District Council has asked planning experts, Nexus Planning, to carry out a Town Centre Study. This will provide important evidence for the new Local Plan.
The study will look at:
Recent government policies on retail, leisure, and town centres.
Current trends and changes in shopping, leisure, and other town centre activities.
The future needs of our town centres, including shops and leisure facilities.
‘Health checks’ of town centres, as required by national planning guidance.
The local property market and advice for our larger town centres.
Policy recommendations for the Council.
Household Survey
To help with the study, we are asking residents about their shopping and leisure habits. NEMS Market Research (based in Newcastle) will carry out a telephone survey of around 1,000 households across Wealden and the surrounding area.
A similar survey took place in July 2021, and repeating it now will help us see how things have changed. The results will give the Council a clearer picture of where people shop, how they spend their leisure time, and how they use our town centres.
The survey takes about 6–7 minutes.
About three quarters of calls will be made outside of normal working hours in order to make sure that a diverse range of households can take part.
You will only be asked your age, gender, and full postcode (to make sure we are representative and cover all areas).
Your answers will only be used in statistical form, so that it will not be possible for you to be identified from your answers.
Taking part is completely voluntary, but we would be very grateful for your help. If you are contacted and feel uncomfortable at any time, please hang up and let us know at PlanningPolicy@wealden.gov.uk
For more information about the study, please contact the Planning Policy Team by email or telephone 01892 602 008.
