In Spring/ Summer 2024 we ran an advertising campaign called 'Have you been dumped? to make sure everyone understands how important it is that their rubbish is disposed of correctly.
The advert appeared at petrol stations, on buses, on social media, on the radio and more. As part of this campaign we ran a feedback survey asking you if you saw the campaign and what you thought of it. Thank you to everyone who took part. We are pleased to share that you thought our message was memorable, informative, helpful and useful! and 96% of respondents will now make sure they check for a waste carrier licence when using a third party to remove any rubbish. That’s great news. Let’s carry on the good work and help reduce fly-tipping by preventing fly-tippers access to any rubbish.
Your rubbish is your responsibility. We all have a duty of care to dispose of our rubbish lawfully. If you ask someone to take your rubbish away and it's found fly-tipped, you could get a criminal record and an unlimited fine if you didn't check the waste carrier you used was licensed!
When using someone else to dispose of your rubbish ALWAYS check they’re licensed and get a receipt and keep it.
Fly-tipped rubbish is damaging to:
Us
the Environment
Wildlife
Public funds
Making sure you do the right thing with your rubbish protects the environment for everyone and means there is more money for other public services.
This video by the Environment Agency explains more about how you can avoid your rubbish being fly-tipped.
Your rubbish is your responsibility, so do the right thing.
