Why did we undertake a polling district review?

Because we have a legal duty to do so.

The primary legislation governing Polling District Reviews is largely contained in The Representation of the People Act 1983 which requires the council to divide its area into polling districts and to designate a polling place for each district. The Electoral Administration Act 2006, as amended, introduced a duty on all local authorities in Great Britain to review their polling districts and polling places at least once every five years. The last review for Wealden took place in 2019.

What is a polling district review?

This review must:

  • Designate a polling district for each of its parish areas;
  • Designate a polling place for each of its polling districts; and
  • Ensure that polling places and polling stations are suitable and have reasonable facilities for voting including, as far as reasonable and practicable, for voters with disabilities.

Tell us what you think - the consultation

A whole range of consultation tools were used to inform the review. A survey and interactive map tool were available via this page on the Let's Talk Wealden site, emails were sent to stakeholders including councillors, MPs and Acting Returning Officers plus social media posts and press releases were used. The information was also available in hard copy at several public buildings across the district for those not able to see out digital content.

There were 37 responses to the consultation via the online survey, plus some feedback via email. The majority of responses received related to the convenience or otherwise of the polling place for some voters.

All the consultation comments received can be seen in full at the bottom of the Wealden web page here.

On Wednesday 24 January 2024, a report was presented to Audit, Finance & Governance Committee outlining the recommendations for the designation of all polling districts, polling places and polling stations within the Wealden district. This report is available on the right hand side of this page.

PDR Map - suggest new polling places

12 months

This is where you will be able to suggest a new polling place (i.e. polling station) by dragging and dropping a pin onto the map.

Please read first.

If you would like to add a "suggested new polling station" pin - please drag and drop the pin on to the map as close to the location as possible. The map should be clear and all major community buildings etc. labelled.

You will then be asked to name the location, so that we can be certain where you're talking about and then tell us why you think this is a suitable location as a polling place. You can even upload a photo of your suggested polling place should you wish.

Please don't forget to also take part in the consultation survey where you can write more about the current polling station arrangements, proposed changes or your own suggestions.
